It’s 5:30 AM, I have been up since 9:30 this morning, and I still have to finish my final for one of my classes and email it this morning. It’s times like this that I sometimes like to take a step back and realize what an incredible time in my life this is. Yes, it sucks being up all night, and yes, I hate writing finals, and yes, I hate being in the darkroom all night finishing up prints for my portfolio submission later tonight. However, within the midst of looming deadlines and growing stress, there is a small voice that says, “one day you will look back on this time and wish with all your heart you could be there again.” I know it sounds crazy, but I think one day when I’m sitting on my back porch drinking lemonade as a ripe 70 or 80 year old man, God willing, I will think back on these crazy times and wish I could stay up all night just to get a final done, or have the energy to mat 25 prints in one night while seeing ghosts due to sleep deprivation. I guess I realized this evening as I pulled my car up to school at 2:00 AM to start printing that I need to be more thankful for what I have here and now. So I say to you finals week of Fall 2006, give me your best shot, for in a little while it will all be over along with the rest of my waning college career.

This is an image that basically sums up the entire grad school experience for me. Thats Alison on the left and Tracey in the middle, and thats me trying to read some crap. This was taken during our qualitative research class. My creative capacities have increased dramatically after taking this class. I can’t begin to express how beneficial this class has been to my photography career. I mean what suits an M.F.A. program better than qualitative research. Qualitative research and Master of Fine Arts just fits together perfectly. Oh, feel free to come out and join us at our first annual Qualitative Research Bonfire. The bonfire will be held at my house on Friday, December 15. Make sure to bring your qualitative research books and all writings for the class. We will build the fire around an assortment of books, writings, and syllabi’s from the class. We will commence the fire at 7:00 PM sharp and begin the tribal dancing around 7:15.
