Tim Lewis is the owner of Lewis Farms Nursery in Elko, Georgia. Tim was born and raised in Elko, and he and his family live in the same house he grew up in as a boy. My goal was to capture Tim in a natural environment and pose, surrounded by the plants he cares for.
I am having a difficult time choosing between these two shots. Please let me know which one you think is stronger.
I’m tending to lean towards the bottom one. My thoughts.
Top Photo:
The plants on the bottom of the picture seem to cut Tim off at the waist, and it feels seems somewhat abrupt.
I do like the depth of field in hanging baskets on the left side of the pic.
Bottom Photo:
I like the texture of the foreground flowers, and how more of Tim is visible. The fact that we can see he is wearing jeans adds to his character.
The hanging basket just off of Tim’s right shoulder is somewhat distracting even though it is slightly out of focus, maybe because it’s in the middle of picture.
I agree with Anthony, the 2nd image is much stronger. The first image seems a little too posed. He seems uncomfortable. Plus he’s got some plants growing out of his armpits.
The 2nd image is more about him, and not the flowers. Also, the 2nd image doesn’t have as harsh of a rim light. The top image almost looks like he was pasted in there in post.
Thanks for the comments guys. I agree with both of you, and I think the second image also fits better with the rest of the project because it is a little farther back and has more environment in the frame.
